for cars like the Golf and Murcielago to go into production. Same with Ferrari, they submit ideas on new cars to their superiors at Fiat to decide which car they should build. Fiat could pull the plug on the whole Ferrari F1 program tomorrow, they could put a six cylinder in a 360 modena, add a cheap convertible top and call it the Mondial all over again if they wanted to. As much as I love Ferraris, they aren't the same as 10 years ago. Much higher volume, you see plenty here in Cali, I see a 360 or 550 every day around here. Porsche took a different route and decided not to sell out and instead go into making cheap cars they could sell to the masses to stay independant. Sure it sacrificed a bit of the exclusivity of owning a Porsche (I see a ton of Boxsters around), but better for them to give some of that up than to have to answer to BMW (who was almost going to buy them out in 1994) on what their next car is going to be. Just my humble opinion though.
